Thomas Ping Residence: Comstock, Iowa Enlistment Date: 03 March 1862 Distinguished Service: DISTINGUISHED SERVICE Side Served: Union State Served: Iowa Unit Numbers: 189 189 Occupation: Service Record: Enlisted as a Sergeant 4th Class on 03 March 1862 at the age of 42 Enlisted in Company E, 17th Infantry Regiment Iowa on 05 May 1862 Received a disability discharge on 11 December 1862 in St Louis, MO Sources: Roster & Record of Iowa Soldiers in the War of Rebellion. (IARoster) Published in 1910 by English . According to his Civil War Pension Records: Sergt. Warren while with a squad of men going from Camp Clear Spring to Hamburg on the Tennessee River in the month of July 1862 for provisions for said Regt. the wagon in which he was riding while descending a hill at good speed ran into a stump violently throwing him and badly injuring him, breaking some of his ribs on right side and severely injuring his spine & crushing and partially destroying his right testicle. Treated at hospital in Mound City, Illinois in Oct 1862 and in New House of Refuge at St. Loius, Missouri in latter part of Nov 1862 and first of Dec 1862. Also received treatment In Regimental Hospitals at different places. Was treated for Typhoid Fever on 10 Oct 1862 and returned to duty 5 Nov. 1862. Was treated for a gunshot wound 13 Nov. 1862 and sent to New House of Refuge General Hospital 20 Nov 1862. Ambrose Warren was discharged Dec 11, 1862.
