Description	:	Newport Hoosier State Wednesday, December 31, 1890 Mrs. Amelia Skidmore, widow of the late Hon. William Skidmore, died at her residence, 6 1/2 miles southwest of Dana, this county, at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 1890, aged 70 years and 27 days. The deceased had been afflicted for years with a growing tumor on her side, which finally caused her death. The funeral took place on Sunday morning, the day following her death. Rev. J.E. William Skidmore, died at her residence, 6 1/2 miles southwest of Dana, this county, at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 1890, aged 70 years and 27 days. The deceased had been afflicted for years with a growing tumor on her side, which finally caused her death. The funeral took place on Sunday morning, the day following her death. Rev. J.E. Wright preached the discourse. All of her children were present at the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Sarah Freeman, of Longton, KS. Her remains were interred in the Helts Prairie Cemetery. She expressed a willingness to die, and said she was going home to meet the dear friends who had gone before. Just before her spirit took its flight, she bade all her children good-bye, and told them she would meet them in the better world. She was a kind hearted old lady as ever lived, and was a true Christian in every sense of the term. Her husband, who died in May 1881, claimed to have been the first white child born in this county. He was born February 19, 1819. Mrs. Skidmore was born in Evansville, this state, on November 22, 1820. Her parents, James and Mary Anderson, were natives of Kentucky, and her great grandparents on her mother's side were Webbs, who came from Ireland. Her father's side came from England, in the old Colonial days. Her father moved to Harmony, Posey County, when she was but 7 years old, and shortly after to Lafayette, this state. Her father died while they lived at Harmony. From there she took up her abode with her uncle, Elijah Johnson, in the town of Newport, this county. At the age of 12 she moved to Clinton to live with her widowed mother. Her advantages for education were meager, but she received a fair education. When but 19, she was married to Solomon Helt, by whom she gave birth to 3 children. She united with the M.E. Church in her 20th year. In 1852, she was married to William Skidmore, by whom she raised 4 children, one dying in infancy.
