Description	:	Death of Mrs. Bernhagen Amelia Hartvig was born near Berlin, Germany, Feb. 5th, 1837. She was married to Michael Bernhagen in Germany in 1857. They moved to the United States and settled at Fondu Lac, Wis., in 1866, and moved thence to Clay county in 1871 and homesteaded in southwest Lake, about four miles southeast, of where Langdon now is. Here they lived together till the death of the husband, April 23, 1903(?). Read More	Death of Mrs. Bernhagen Amelia Hartvig was born near Berlin, Germany, Feb. 5th, 1837. She was married to Michael Bernhagen in Germany in 1857. They moved to the United States and settled at Fondu Lac, Wis., in 1866, and moved thence to Clay county in 1871 and homesteaded in southwest Lake, about four miles southeast, of where Langdon now is. Here they lived together till the death of the husband, April 23, 1903(?). She still lived on the old homestead for a few years and then went to live with her daughter, Mrs. John Hopkins at Langdon, where she died Friday morning, Aug. 7, 1914. There are six children living. Mrs. Bertha Albers of Rossie. Mrs. Pauline Hopkins, Langdon, Mary Bernhagen also of Langdon, F.W. Bernhagen of southeast Meadow, Mrs. Sophia Hoffman of Freeman and R.W. Bernhagen who lives on the old homestead. Mrs. Bernhagen was confirmed in the Lutheran church in early life and maintained a consistent Christian life. She was a woman of personal force and character, which traits she imparted to her children. She was a devoted mother and wife. She lived a life of kindness, always ready to minister to the sick and lend a helping hand in time of need, and her calm and strong face was an index of goodness and a true life. The funeral was held at the John Hopkins home at Langdon, Sunday at ten a.m., conducted by Rev. Honey of Dickens assisted by Rev. R.J. Symons of Langdon and interment was made in Riverside beside the husband. And so another loved one has passed into the great beyond. The sons and daughters and their families wish to express their appreciation of the many kindnesses shown them and of the beautiful floral offerings.
