The following bio was submitted by Findagrave member #47223271: America was born 18 Apr 1848 in Ohio, the 4th of five children of John Bercaw and Eliza Cheasman. Her siblings: Susan May, Margaret Jane, Elizabeth Ellen and Zachariah Taylor. In 1860, when America was 13, she and her four siblings are found living in the home of Christian M. and Eliza Shenkle in Jackson township, Brown Co., Ohio. America’s father died in 1851 and her mother married Christian Shenkle in 1856. From that marriage, America immediately gained six step siblings and eventually, four half siblings: Emma Alice, John Henry, Caskey Manson and Amanda (died young). In Brown Co., Ohio, on 29 Aug 1867, America married James W. Morris, son of John Morris and Julia Ann Shenkle (sister to her step-father). They had three children: Lida Lenora, Charles Stewart and Roy R. James and America left Ohio a few years after their marriage and settled in Union township, Wayne Co., Iowa. America died 16 Feb 1923 and James died 8 years later. They are buried next to each other. Other family members in this same cemetery: their sons: Charles Stewart and Roy and their wives and two grandsons.
