Baith, 01/22/2016: From The Evening Review East Liverpool Ohio Monday, May 13, 1918 Quarrel Ends In Murder As a culmination of a family quarrel, Amos a Burson, age 23 years, was shot and instantly killed by his brother, Clarence Burson, age 27, yesterday morning at about 10 o’clock at the home in Middleton Township, 2 miles from Rogers. The murderer was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Harlan Crawford shortly after the shooting and lodged in the county jail. The two brothers, both of whom were married, purchased the Burson homestead a couple months ago, Clarence removing from Midland, Pa., and Amos from Freedom, PA. The house had been petitioned off for the use of the two families, both were obliged to use the same stairway. Yesterday morning the elder brother had gone to the side occupied by his younger brother, Amos, and made inquiries concerning the stairway. A quarrel ensued between the two brothers during which Amos is said to have picked up a chair and knocked his brother to the floor. Clarence then rushed to his room and securing a 38 caliber revolver, returned to the scene of the fight, firing four shots at his young brother, all of which took effect in the man’s body. He is alleged to have turned the revolver on his brother’s wife, firing one shot which went wild. The wounded man, with two bullets in his breast and two in his abdomen and head, staggered into an adjoining room where he died within a few minutes. Following the shooting, Clarence went to a nearby phone and call Dr. Rogers at Negley. He then returned to his home in hissed up a horse, driving to meet the physician. The services of the physician were unnecessary, however, the man dying before his arrival. The murderers later, in company with his father, George Burson, an eyewitness to the tragedy, drove to Negley to inform his sister of the affair. And route home both were placed under arrest by Deputy Sheriff Harlan Crawford. Prosecutor Walter back was notified of the occurrence and hurried to the scene of the shooting. Deceased is survived by his wife and three children while his brother has a family of two children.
