Henke, died Saturday night from injuries received in an auto accident near Buffalo. Bud and his uncle, Ed Layher, had started to drive to Broken Bow. As they neared Buffalo the car lights went out and although Mr. Layher drove slowly, the car upset as it was going down hill. The two were pinned under the car, and in about half an hour Bud Henke died as a result of his injuries. Previous to his death he tole his uncle that his back was badly hurt. Mr. Layher, who was unable to extricate himself, was forced to remain under the car until about nine Sunday morning when he was found by a group of hunters from Kearney. He was brought to Cozad, and, after receiving medical treatment, was taken to the hospital at Broken Bow. Mr. Layher suffered extremely from the exposure as it was very cold and damp Saturday night. In addition to the injuries received, he was badly burned by the gasoline which dripped from the car tank over his body, penetrating through his clothes. He is believed to be in a very serious condition. ~~~~~~~ Obituary - Amos Henke Amos Chris Henke, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Henke, was born near Scotia, Neb., September 25, 1919 and departed this life November 2, 1935 at the age of 16 years, 1 month and 8 days. At the age of three years Bud, with his parents and brother, moved to Stapleton, Neb., where they lived until April 1929 when the family moved to Racine, Wisconsin. On April 18, 1930 the family moved back to Nebraska and located at Cozad, where they have since made their home. Bud was truly a success and his memory will ever be treasured by those who knew him. He was a loving son and a true friend. He leaves to mourn his going his parents, three brothers, Marion Allen, Robert Dean and Dale Gene, two sisters, Anna Loretta and Beverly Gean, and many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Davis Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, November 6th, Rev. F. A. Lenz, pastor of the Evangelical church officiating. Interment was in the Cozad cemetery.
