Amos' great grandfather, Gervaise and grandfather, Michael owned tracts of land with names like; Gilbert's Pipe, Gilbert's Chance, Gilbert's Outlet and Gilbert's Addition. The Gilbert's owned a large amount of land between Aberdeen and Carsin's Run which was referred to as "Gilbert Town" on the 1858 map of Harford County, Maryland. The Gilbert's were prominent citizens who contributed to the development of agriculture in District 2 and they were very active in civic, political and church affairs for over 250 years. Part of the Gilbert farmland is now "Wetlands Golf Club" located at 740 Gilbert Road just outside of Aberdeen, Harford County, Maryland. They and ten other family members were buried in the Gilbert Family Cemetery on their farm, located just off Gilbert Road at 613 Aldino Stepney Road. Amos lived to about age 62.
