Description	:	CENTRAL CITY — Amy M. Petersen, 84, of Central City died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Central City Care Center in Central City. Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 627 H. Street, Burwell, with the Rev. Alan Petersen officiating. Amy's wishes were to donate her body to science. Burial will be at a later date in Kent Cemetery in Burwell. Wagner Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mrs. Petersen was born June 4, 1929, in Custer County near Gates to Charles H. and Nellie O. (Troxel) Molesworth. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Barry Petersen. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, J. Stanley Petersen of Central City; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Rachel Petersen of Firth; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Norm Balliet of Central City, Judy and John Ahlschwede of Central City and Carol and David Brozek of Lincoln; 12 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Viola Tucker of Sargent. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She grew up on a farm with her parents, a brother and a sister, Alfred and Viola. She graduated from Burwell High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to James Stanley Petersen on Dec., 28, 1948, in Burwell during the blizzard of 1948-49. The couple lived and raised four children on a farm/ranch northwest of Burwell until 1969. Then the family moved to Lincoln, where she continued to raise their children until they were all married. She then worked at Hanigan, Snyder, & Swanson doctor's office and Planned Parenthood. She also volunteered in many capacities. Amy and Stanley enjoyed visiting neighbors and playing cards in Burwell. They spent their winters in Texas after Stanley retired. In recent years, the couple had moved to Central City to be closer to family. Amy served on NSEA several years. She belonged to the Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday School. She also belonged to the Pleasant View Extension Club and worked with children in 4-H. Amy enjoyed gardening, taking classes in landscape and floral arranging. She did a lot of sewing and do-it-yourself projects. Amy loved and was loved in return by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alfred Molesworth; and a great-granddaughter, Kira Petersen.
