Description	:	Anders Andreassen from the Stangerodegaard Ødegaard farm in Norway Americanized his name to Andrew Anders Odegaard. He is found in the Bottineau cemetery records as Andrew A Odegaard. The North Dakota death index has his name recorded as Andrew Odegard. His two sons shortened their surname to the Odegard spelling. He immigrated to Bottineau County about 1900 and homesteaded southeast of Antler. In 1902 he married Ellen Serine Clev Vinje, the widow of Sivert Vinje. She was born in 1868 in Snaasa, Stenkjer, Norway, married Sivert Vinje, and they homesteaded in Pickering Township about three miles northwest of Bottineau. They built a stone house which still stands. Edward and David were eight and six years old when Sivert died of pneumonia. One daughter, Selma, died in infancy. Anders and Ellen lived on the Pickering farm, but spent enough time at the Antler farm to prove it up. They farmed until 1928, when they sold everything at a farm auction and retired. Anders died in 1946 and Ellen in 1954. They had four children, all of whom attended the Vinje rural school, graduated from Bottineau High School, and, the School of Forestry. All also received bachelor degrees at universities, and all taught school. The children were: Alfred of Chicago Heights, Illinois; Julius of Cincinnati, Ohio; Ragna (Mrs. Willis Van Heuvelen). Bismarck, North Dakota; and Sally (Mrs. Paul Van Sickle), deceased. The family was strongly Lutheran, and Anders and Ellen were charter members of First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. swept over northern Europe. Half the population died, wiping out entire families, leaving many vacant and empty farms. The word ode means vacant, and gaard means farm, hence the surname Odegaard.
