Anders Bernhard (Benard) Johansson (AKA Andrew Bernhard Johnson) was born in Brannforsund, Degerfors, Vasterbotten, Sweden on August 13, 1850. Mathilda Ulricka Johansdotter (AKA Joneson) was born June 26, 1863 in Norsjo, Vasterbotten, Sweden. In 1881 they were married in their home country of Sweden. To this union ten children were born. Anders Bernhard (Benard) Johansson (AKA Andrew Bernhard Johnson) was born in Brannforsund, Degerfors, Vasterbotten, Sweden on August 13, 1850. Mathilda Ulricka Johansdotter (AKA Joneson) was born June 26, 1863 in Norsjo, Vasterbotten, Sweden. In 1881 they were married in their home country of Sweden. To this union ten children were born. The first two children were born in Sweden and the rest of the children were born in Kulm, North Dakota, USA. Their first daughter Eva passed away in Sweden. They immigrated to North Dakota in 1886 with their second daughter Mary. There they homesteaded the flat and barren land. After several years of hard toil, they slowly improved their homestead. Mrs. John Edstrom, Eva Marie, (Mathilda’s sister) from the Edberg area urged the Johnson family to come to Alberta where there was plentiful land, wood, trees and lakes. Considering the benefits, the Johnson family made the decision to move to Alberta. They disposed of their property and loaded two train cars with livestock, arm machinery and household goods. The men rode with the animals and the women and children went by passenger train to Camrose. They immigrated to Edberg, Alberta, Canada in the spring of 1908. John Edstrom met them with his horse and buggy and they lived with the Edstrom’s until they bought their own farm. Andrew Johnson loved horses and was often buying, selling and trading them. Andrew passed away in 1914. In 1928 Mathilda purchased a homestead and lived there with her daughter Julia and her husband Hank Westfall. Mathilda passed away in 1944 at New Norway. Their children: 1. Eva 1883-1886 2. Mary Kathleen – 1885-1954, married to Frederick Daniel Chase in June 1906 at Kulm, North Dakota. They had 4 children: Florence R, Edward, Nettie Elizabeth, Lloyd. 3. Ida Matilda 1887-1946, married to John Emil Edstrom in 1908. A son, Clarence, was born in 1914 in Camrose. Her husband passed away in 1916. Ida remarried. Her second husband was Emil Lundstrom. They had four children: Elmer Albin (1909-1973), Clarence (?-1914) and 2 others who passed away at a young age. 4. John Ludwig (1890-1956) married to Louise (Lucy) Graf (1897-1974) on December 5, 1917 in Camrose. They had 3 sons. 5. Edward Johnson (1892-?) Died as a child in Kulm. 6. Ansil Eric (1895-1954) married to Vita Sorensen (1908-2001) in 1932 at Edmonton. They had two sons. Their youngest son Donald Lester was an RCMP officer who had attained the rank of Corporal and had also worked for CSIS. He passed away in 2010. 7. Julia Isabel (1898-1951) who married Hank Westfall on April 17, 1928 at Camrose. They had four children Ernest Orville (1930-2001), two other sons and one daughter. 8. Grace (1900-1981) who married Hjalmar Berglund (1892-1959). They had two sons and one daughter. Merle (AKA Merald?) (1920-1995.) 9. Marvin (1902 -?) Deceased as a child in Kulm. 10. Hazel (1904-1967) married to William Germanick (1894-1985). They had two sons and one daughter.
