They probably stopped at Wisconsin, possibly Minnesota but certainly arrived at Floyd County, Iowa and stayed there about 4 years. Anders' wife, Anne, died in March, 1869, while living there and she is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Cemetery at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, one of the earliest burials at that cemetery. Anders' older brother, Jens, emigrated 1850 and settled with his family on a farm on the Floyd/Mitchell County line. He and his second wife, Mary, moved to Lake Mills later and are buried there. Anders and children left Iowa and moved west to homestead land at Burt County, Nebraska. When Anders first came to Burt Co., NE, his daughter, Martha, was married to Ansteen Sorenson and they lived on a farm near Golden Springs, building a house. This was the home where Andrew died. Tekamah newspaper: "The first case of suicide that ever occurred in our county, was on last Tuesday night, in Silver Creek precinct, at the residence of the Sorenson's. The facts in the case are as follows: Mr. Jensen, the victim, was at times a subject of partial derangement, but very recently received the intelligence from Europe of the death of his mother and since that time has been more or less demented. On Thursday morning he went with Mr. Sorenson to the Arizona timber and returned; no particular symptoms were manifested, and he retired as usual to his hammock (a swinging bed he preferred to sleep in.) In the morning Sorenson went to the head of the stairs and saw the dead man standing erect, but took no further notice, supposing he was preparing to come down stairs. . . ." Anders was first buried at the farm he was living at but his body was taken from the farm cemetery and moved to the Tekamah Cemetery on April 13, 1882 and assumed to be buried at Lot 35.
