Burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Andrew was born April 1, 1921, the son of Gust and Mary (Vanhalla) Eckholm. He was raised and educated at a Wing rural school. He served as a combat engineer with the U.S. Army from December 1945 to February 1947. Andrew married Mary Novy of Wing on Feb. 20, 1954, in Bismarck. They farmed and ranched in the Wing area. Andy was a member of the Wing Farmers Union, the Bismarck VFW Club, and also was the commander at one time of the American Legion of Wing. Andrew and Mary have been residents of the Waterford since August 2000, and before that they lived southwest of Wing where Andy farmed. He enjoyed his family and was always happy when his grandchildren came to visit. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary; two sons and daughters-in-laws, Daryl and Shelly Eckholm, Wing, and Curtis and Lisa Eckholm, Mandan; one daughter, Carolyn Eckholm, Bismarck; five grandchildren, Annika, Erika and Ethan Eckholm, all of Wing, and Larissa and Chase Eckholm, both of Mandan; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Severi Eckholm, Cando, Henry and Verna Eckholm, Orlando, Fla., and Walter and Marlene Eckholm, Bismarck; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Tyne Olson, Bismarck, his twin sister, Selma Downing, San Diego, Vieno Crawford, Aurora, Colo., and Lydia and Kenneth Newcomer, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.
