Description	:	A child Alice Gertrude was born on May 31, 1892. ------------------------------------------- Andrew was the son of Capt. John Searles and Elizabeth Grieves. During a voyage with her husband, Elizabeth collected water from the Jordan River to be used at Andrew's christening. In 1865, Captain Searles' ship, "Race Horse," and its crew were lost at sea. As soon as he was old enough, Elizabeth apprenticed Andrew to a ship captain but in 1881 he moved west to Knox County, NE. He married Viola Malinda Hayford on Oct 16, 1889, in Morrillville. They had four children: Alice Gertrude (married Albert House), Ada (lived three days), Frank Austin, and Grace Helena (married Axel Borg). Andrew took part in the Bristow community and headed the trustees of the Methodist Church. His name appears in the Methodist church cornerstone. In his early days of farming, he was cornered in the barn by a bull and his chest was crushed. He kept the bull from killing him by hanging onto its nose ring and holding the head straight. In 1914, he died of pneumonia.
