Description	:	Wathena Republican, Wathena, Kansas, Jan. 18, 1907, Friday OBITUARY Mr. Andrew Hays, second son of Mr. John and Mrs. Elizabeth Hays, died at his home in Cozad, Neb., Friday morning, at 5:00 o'clock, Dec. 21, 1906, after a lingering illness of cancer of the stomach. The deceased was born in Ohio January 14, 1853. When two years of age, he removed to Kansas with his parents, where he grew to manhood. Read More	Wathena Republican, Wathena, Kansas, Jan. 18, 1907, Friday OBITUARY Mr. Andrew Hays, second son of Mr. John and Mrs. Elizabeth Hays, died at his home in Cozad, Neb., Friday morning, at 5:00 o'clock, Dec. 21, 1906, after a lingering illness of cancer of the stomach. The deceased was born in Ohio January 14, 1853. When two years of age, he removed to Kansas with his parents, where he grew to manhood. In 1874 he was married to Miss Nettie Hague and of this union three children were born, Wardo, the son, Estella and Maud the daughters. Mr. Hays and family were among the earliest settlers of Dawson county. In 1897 he was elected sheriff of Dawson county, and held the office for two terms. He was highly respected, both as a man and as an officer. During the past two years, he has been engaged in the harness business in Cozad and had built up a good business. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the M. E. church. The services being conducted by Rev. H. H. Meeker. The remains were interred in Cozad cemetery. The deceased was 53 years, 11 months and 7 days at his death. He leaves a wife and three children, an aged mother, two brothers and four sisters. Namely, Mr. Zephaniah Hays of Doniphan county, Mr. William Hays of Cozad, Neb., Mrs. Jane Wynkoop of Sterling, Colo., Mrs. Mary Randolph of Stillwater, Okla., Mrs. Marie McClelland, of Doniphan county, Mrs. Ellen Clanneh of Box, Oregon, are left to mourn his loss.
