Champaign Democrat -- August 25, 1881 Andrew Howell who was kicked by a vicious horse some time ago, is now on the mend. April 6, 1906 Uncle Andy Howell, the oldest resident of our village, celebrated his 88th birthday last Thursday April 5. His niece, Mrs Leota Hance of near Piqua, with her husband and little daughter Mary, and his only surviving brother, Daniel Howell of Piqua, who has also passed his four score mile stone, also spent the day with him. It is very remarkable to not that Mrs Hance's birthday occurs on the same day of the month as her uncles and that she is 44, just one half as old as he, rather an unusual occurence. A day was spent long to be remembered by those present and will be a bright spot in the memory of the aged gentleman and his companion which will be cherished as one of the pleasant and happiest days in his declining years. A beautiful dinner was prepared to which did all justice. Mr Howell is a carpenter by trade and was counted a very find and speedy workman in younger years, but on account of his extreme old age he has not been able to work of late years. He is in very good health considering his age, able to walk around town and does some light work. He is a man much respected in our village and his many friends as well as relatives wish him many more birthdays. July 18, 1907 Uncle Andy Howell, one of the pioneers of this section, died last Saturday night. Mr Howell was in his 90th year and left a widow and a grand daughter to mourn his loss. The young woman is the daughter of a son born to him and his first wife, both of whom are now dead.
