Description	:	A. J. Gray, Former Commissioner, Dies Andrew J. Gray, 85, former Allen-co commissioner, died at 1:45 p.m. Friday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Solomon Meyers, 725 Mt. Holyoke-av. He had been ill two weeks. Mr. Gray served a two-year term as commissioner from 1920 to 1922 and in 1922 was elected to a four-year term. Gray, 85, former Allen-co commissioner, died at 1:45 p.m. Friday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Solomon Meyers, 725 Mt. Holyoke-av. He had been ill two weeks. Mr. Gray served a two-year term as commissioner from 1920 to 1922 and in 1922 was elected to a four-year term. In 1926 he was a Republican candidate for sheriff but was defeated in the general election. He was also once a trustee of Perry-tp. A native of Logan-co, he had spent the last 50 years in Allen-co. A retired farmer, he moved to Lima when he became commissioner. He lived at 624 Harrison-av before his illness. Surviving are four sons, Harry and Edward, both of Route 1, Harrod; David, 328 Detroit-st, and Raymond, Route 1, Lafayette; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Howbert, Ada, Mrs. Meyers; two brothers, William, Grove City, and John, Detroit; 19 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Memorial chapel of Lewis funeral home. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. The body will be removed to the late residence Saturday afternoon and then be returned at 11 a.m. Monday to the funeral home. (published in The Lima News, Saturday, August 11, 1951, page 2)
