UMBERGER Andrew Jackson Umberger was born March 30, 1875, in Howard county, Missouri, and died at his home near Larned, Kansas, October 12, 1922, at the age of forty-seven years, six months, and twelve days. He came to Kansas with his parents, December 2, 1887, locating on a farm southeast of Larned, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Stella Haskell Mize, June 11, 1902, at Hudson, New York. UMBERGER Andrew Jackson Umberger was born March 30, 1875, in Howard county, Missouri, and died at his home near Larned, Kansas, October 12, 1922, at the age of forty-seven years, six months, and twelve days. He came to Kansas with his parents, December 2, 1887, locating on a farm southeast of Larned, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Stella Haskell Mize, June 11, 1902, at Hudson, New York. He was converted at the age of fifteen and united with the Baptist church. In early manhood he was called of God to the gospel ministry, and after spending some years in preperation, he was ordained in Louisville, Ky. His life as a minister of the gospel has been one of great blessings to those whom it had been his to minister. He rendered most valuable service in the mission works with the Eastside Baptist church of Louisville, and during the World's Fair at St. Louis he acted as missionary under the Third Baptist church. He also did great work at Holyoke, Mass, under Dr. Lyons, the pastor of the first church of that city. But perhaps the most outstanding work of brother Umberger was while pastor in St. Joseph, Mo. He had done excellent work in recent years at Abilene, Lyons, Glendale, and other points in Kansas. He was always a zealous Christian worker, a fearless preacher, and an able exponent of the teachings of the Word of God. Wherever he has gone he has had a host of friends. From the time he had the flu three years ago he had hardly felt a well day, still he had tried to be cheerful and go on with his work, unwilling to give up. He leaves a wife, two sons, and a daughter, one brother, Rev. John Umberger, Garden City, and three sisters. Mrs. J. P. Fertig and Mrs. D. B. Zook of Larned, and Mrs. A. W. Warren of Lyons, and a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his death. The funeral services were held Saturday morning from the Baptist church. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. J. Via. The sermon was preached by the Rev. J. J. Griffin of Garden City, an old friend and school mate of the deceased. The message was a most timely and comforting one. The music was rendered by a quartet composed of Mrs. Harry Wolcott, Miss Alma Grass, Dr. Powell, and Dr. Brown .Interment was made in the Larned cemetery. The Larned Chronoscope 19 Oct. 1922 Thu.
