He was born Feb. 22, 1905, in McCurtain, Okla., to Pardon C. and Crocha Ann Bailey Hewitt. He married Mary Ellen Lewis on Jan. 19, 1946, in Ottumwa. He was in the service for 26 years, retiring from the Air Force in 1956, he was then employed at the U.S. Postal Service. He married Mary Ellen Lewis on Jan. 19, 1946, in Ottumwa. He was in the service for 26 years, retiring from the Air Force in 1956, he was then employed at the U.S. Postal Service. A resident of Ottumwa since 1956, he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as clerk and high priest. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Consistory and Shrine in San Antonio. He was also a member of Clinton Chapter No. 9, Ottumwa Council No. 31, Malta Commandery No. 31 and O. B. Nelson Post No. 3 of American Legion. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Nancy Ann Hopkes of Bountiful, Utah, Betty Hewitt of Cedar Rapids and Shirley Reber of Bloomfield; four grandchildren; and a half brother, Lester Hewitt of Zenia, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a half sister, Dorothy Gochenouer. The service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Bishop Clive Parcel officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery near Floris. Military service will be conducted by O. B. Nelson Post No. 3 of American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 of Veterans of Foreign Wars. The visitation will begin after 10:00 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa. Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jerry Sands, Danny Leonard, Kerry and Adrian Reber, Larry Popkes and Raymond Palmer. Memorials may be given to Shriners Burn Hospital. (No source given)
