Lesley died at his residence in this place on the morning of December 13, after an illness from paralysis of about three and a half days. His age was 83 years and one day. The day of his death was also the sixty first anniversary of the marriage of himself and wife. He was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, in 1827. In 1841 his parents removed to Davis county, Iowa. On December 13, 1849, when he was one day over twenty-two years, he and Miss Julia A. Portrum were united in marriage. Of eight children born, one died in infancy and one son, Samuel, grew to manhood and died in July 1904. Of the four sons living, Alvin, George, and Frank, also the two daughters, Mrs. Angeline Robbins, of Davis City, and Mrs. Fowler, of Lamoni, all were present at the funeral. Jacob alone was absent of the six children. He was in Texas when heard from last. There are also twenty-three grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. All mourn with the aged mother, now past eighty years and quite feeble. Services were held at the residence on Thursday afternoon, December 15, Elder J. R. Lambert offering prayer and Elder H. A.
