Description	:	Here's a short history of the Holy Cross Catholic Church at Ashern, 1914-1969. The Catholic people of Ashern and surrounding district, found they had no place to worship, so in 1914, they got together and decided if all would lend a helping hand it would not take long to start a church. Mr. Ugene Gosslin and Andrew McTavish took their teams of horses and oxen out to the bush, cut logs, hauled the logs to town and cut them into lumber, others donated money and labor on the building. The Catholic people of Ashern and surrounding district, found they had no place to worship, so in 1914, they got together and decided if all would lend a helping hand it would not take long to start a church. Mr. Ugene Gosslin and Andrew McTavish took their teams of horses and oxen out to the bush, cut logs, hauled the logs to town and cut them into lumber, others donated money and labor on the building. The property where the same church still stands was donated by Mr. P. Michelon, which was a part of his homestead. The church was built, but not finished, when the first Mass was celebrated the first Sunday in July in 1915.
