Description	:	Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wed., June 28, for Andrew S. "Bud" Hefte, 81, Madison, who died on June 24, 2006, at the V.A. Medical Center in Sioux Falls. The Rev. Conrad Krahling will officiate in the Randall Funeral Home, and burial will be in Winfred Cemetery with military honors by the Madison VFW and American Legion Posts. Hefte was born on Aug. 29, 1924, at Montrose to Andrew and Maude (McConnell) Hefte. The family moved to Winfred, where he attended school and worked at the gas station. He married Anna Demary on June 30, 1944, at Pipestone, Minn. He later married Pearl Hein. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His boot camp was in Fargot, Idaho, and then he shipped out to Pearl Harbor. He served in the South Pacific Theater of Operations and saw action in Okinawa. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and farmed for several years. He then bought R.D. Woods Hardware Store in Winfred and started a cafe. In 1956, he moved to Flandreau and was superintendent for Sioux Falls Rendering Company. In 1969, he moved to Sioux Falls and was a salesman for Interstate Utility Prod. He returned to Madison and was the city water superintendent. He later worked for Helper Inc. He was a member and past commander of the Madison VFW and a member of the Madison American Legion. Survivors include a daughter, Dianna Marie (Richard) Carlson of Brandon; a grandson; a brother, Bill (Virginia) of Red Banks, Miss.; and a sister, Dorothy Deane of Omaha, Neb.
