He had been there a year and ten days, but was up and around until ten days before his death . His demise was attributed to a cerebral hemmorrhage. The deceased was born at Racine, Wis. on November 19, 1855 and died at Norfolk on May 9, 1942 at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 20 days. At the age of four years he came to Decorah, Iowa with his parents and spent the days of his youth in that city. He was united in wedlock to Margaret Bierlipp at Mayville, Wis. on January 11, 1881. Born to this union were two sons and three daughters, one daughter passing away in infancy. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Stortz resided at Decorah for three years and then came to Nebraska in 1884. They located on a farm near Norfolk, where they lived for 18 years. In 1902 they came to Creighton and this has been their home for the past 30 years. They first lived on a farm on the east edge of town and later retired and purchased a home in town. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1931 and all their children and grandchildren were present for the occasion. Mr. Stortz was kind and considerate and during his long residence in Creighton, had accumulated many acquaintances and friend. Those who mourn his departure are his widow, two daughters, Mrs. M.J. Wagner of Creighton and Mrs. John Bonge of Neligh; two sons, Leo Stortz, Creighton and Charles Stortz of Grand Junction, Colo.; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The body was brought to Creighton on Saturday evening and funeral services were held on Monday morning at 9 o'clock from the St. Ludger Catholic church. Father Windolph was in charge of the rites. Many friends and relatives were present to pay a fitting tribute to the deceased. The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery. ...The Creighton News 14 May 1942
