Anfinson was born April 24, 1838 in Skaanevig, Norway and dies at his home north of Cambridge January 7, 1922 having reached the age of 83 years, 8 months 14 days. In 1857 at the age of 19, he emigrated to America and settled down on a farm near Lisbon, Illinois. On August 11, 1862 he enlisted in the army and became a member of Co. C 91st regiment of the Illinois Infantry where he served for three years in the same company and received an honorable discharge on July 12, 1865 at Mobile, Alabama. During his three years on the army service he went through many battles and rendered much good service. The same fall after he was discharged he came to Iowa and took up farming, where he remained until his death. On March 30, 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Fatland, of this place and to them were born nine children, the youngest died in infancy. He is survived by his aged wife and eight children. Oley, Charley, and Mrs. Lena Berg of Clarion, Iowa; Henry, Mrs. Carries Johnson of Cambridge; Eddie of Forest City; Harry of Clarion; Elias of Ceylon, Minn and 29 grandchildren. In the death of Mr. Anfinson this community has lost another pioneer and he will be greatly missed by his many friends. He was a man of excellent habits, a good neighbor, hind husband and a loving father. But he has gone! Another name is stricken from the lessening roll of our old settlers and also another name stricken from the local G.A.R. Post of which he was a faithful member - One by one they go. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the Lutheran Church at Cambridge of which he was one of the founders. Rev. Peder Buland his pastor conducting the church services assisted by Rev. P. H. Hicks. His six sons acted as pall bearers. The members of the Mathis Wire Post of the American Legion attended the funeral in a body and marched to the cemetery where they gave the full military honors. Card of Appreciation We wish to return thanks to the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us in the late bereavements in the death of husband and father. The waves of sorrow breaks upon every shore, and we can but hope that friends as true may gather around each when sorrow invades their homes.
