Thomas Gabrielson of New Rockford officiating at the 2:00 p. m. service. Mr. Kindem died on 15 September at the City Hospital in New Rockford, ND on the day that he turned 79 years old. Casket bearers were Deleno Kindem, Lenard Kindem, Charles Brickner, Wayne Kindem, Roger Narveson and Lloyd Jordre. Evans-Knott Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Anfin N. Kindem was born on 15 Sep 1889 in Voss, Norway, the son of Nels and Marjo Kindem. He came to the United States in 1905 and settled near Sheyenne. On 14 Jul 1910 he married Mattie Olson in Sheyenne, the daughter of Iver and Martha Olson, and they homesteaded at Dagmar, MT. In 1921 the Kindem family returned to the Sheyenne area where they farmed until 1965 when Anfin entered the Lutheran Home in New Rockford. Mr. Kindem is survived by four children: Isaac Kindem of Oberon, Mervin Kindem of South St. Paul, MN, Ethel, Mrs. Glenn Smeby of Adams, WI, and Gordon Kindem of Bismarck. Two sisters survive in Norway, as well as eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife in 1956, a son Lloyd and a daughter Gloria and also two brothers. Anfin Kindem served in legislature in 1941 as Representative from Benson County. He also was county commissioner for several years and assessor for thirty years, an organizer of Farmers Union Oil Co. in Oberon and Equity Co-op Elevator in Sheyenne and an active member of his community.
