Up to that time Mr. Jackman was vigorous and in the full enjoyment of all his faculties. He conducted all his business affairs up to the time of this shock. Mr. Jackman's body will be brought to Barre and the funeral will be held at the Universalist Church at 2 o'clock wednesday afternoon. Although Angier M. Jackman had for the past few years made his home in Bridgeport, Conn, near his son, he can fairly be claimed with one exception as having been Barre's oldest resident. He was born in Corinth March 2, 1813, and attended the district schools there until he was seventeen years old. His father having died when he was seven years old, he resided with his sister until 1830, when he went to Barre, was apprenticed to Leonard Keith to learn wool carding. He worked at his trade two years after completing his apprenticeship, receiving for the first year $15 and his board and the second year $16. At the age of twenty-three years he rented the shop of his former employer and conducted it successfully for three years, when he bought the business and carried it on untill burned out in 1853. He then worked at farming and carpentry for three years. In 1856 he bought a small farm in the village. Mr. Jackman served the town in various offices through the greater period of his residence there. In 1849 he was elected constable and with the exception of one year, held an office in the sheriff's department for twenty-five consecutive years, a part of that time being during the war. He also held the office of trial justice for nearly a quarter of a century. From 1883 to 1888 he again served as deputy sheriff and in 1893 was elected bailiff. April 11, 1837, Mr. Jackman married Christina, daughter of David French. She died in 1887, leaving three children, Eveline J who is the wife of Frank H. Roberts, a methodist minister, John H. Jackman of Chicago, and George W. Jackman of Bridgeport, Conn. (from the St. Albans Daily Messenger April 4 1905. Pages 3 and 6)
