Description	:	Anita Marie Keeney, a lifetime resident of Colville, WA was born on August 24th, 1953. For 25 years, she battled Multiple Sclerosis (MS) – a disease of the central nervous system. Anita fought this disabling disease with grace and dignity, and at the age of 62, God decided her battle was over. She passed away peacefully on April 14th, 2016. Anita was the daughter of Richard A. and Peggy Jane (Stratton) Sargent. Anita graduated with the Colville High School class of 1971. While growing up in Colville, she worked in the Colville Bakery, which was owned and operated by her parents. Following high school graduation, Anita moved to Spokane where she attended Spokane Falls Community College. Prior to her 20th birthday, she returned to Colville for a blind date with a young man named Denny Keeney. Their Auto-View drive in blind date gave way to wedding bells on March 16th, 1974, and this March, Anita and Denny celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary. Anita and Denny raised two children in Colville. Over the years, the Keeneys set off on numerous road trips spanning from the Pacific Ocean to Yellowstone National Park. Anita’s culinary talents drew crowds of friends and family around the kitchen table as she selflessly shared her flare and passion for cooking and baking. She leaves her unique and delicious recipes as a legacy to her children who inherited this love of baking. While raising a family, Anita worked as the head secretary at the Washington State University Extension Office. During her career, she also worked for a short time as the secretary for the North East Washington Fair. Anita was diagnosed with MS in 1991 and her health required an early retirement in 1998. Though her family gave her reason to fight this disease, her strength, courage and self-determination all came from within. Anita spent the last years of her life receiving care at a skilled nursing facility with daily visits – and showers of love – from her husband. Her fight with MS had been a painful, yet incredibly inspiring process for anyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Anita had an inner strength without equal. She was the “Water Fight Queen” as her trickery kept family members wading through her victories. Her “whammy eye” could stop her husband and children in their tracks with no need for further conversation. She loved her family without reservation and her home was a coveted sanctuary for many of her children’s friends. Anita’s talents also spanned through needlepoint – her hardanger embroidery and cross-stitch projects were beautiful and garnered many awards throughout the years. Her embroidery will be a cherished connection to her memory, as will her bird houses, on-line shopping treasures, love for Mary Higgins Clark mystery novels, TV crime show dramas, and her untouchable sense of humor. Anita is survived by her husband, son and daughter, 2 granddaughters, a brother, a sister and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mrs. Anita Marie Keeney will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the Colville Community Church in Colville, WA. A graveside service will follow at the Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Pastor Eric Ohrtman will officiate.
