She passed away on Thursday, April 2, 1992 in Holoke at the age of 76. She was one of three children and lived in Hallem until 1923 when her family moved to Holyoke. On April 1, 1923, Anita became a member of First United Methodist Church in Holyoke. She attended Holyoke schools and graduated from Phillips County High School in 1932. A short time later she married Glenn Hayes at her parents' home and they began their long life together on their farm near Holyoke. Their marriage was blessed with the arrival of one daughter, Lorraine Shirley, known as Shirley. They farmed together until Glenn and Anita sold the farm and moved to town where Anita lived the rest of her life. Anita worked for the Phillips County Telephone Company and the Cherub Home for handicapped children. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Holyoke Junior Women's Club, joining both groups in 1945. She liked being a homemaker. She was as comfortable at the piano and organ playing her favorite songs as she was at the sewing machine making clothes. Anita loved to embroider, too. Whether it was as mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbor, friend, employee or acquaintance, Anita found her way into the hearts of many. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Henry and her husband Glenn. Anita is survived by her daughter Shirley, three grandsons and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were Monday, April 6, 1992 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Pedotto officiating. Burial was in Holyoke Memorial Park.
