When he was seventeen, he left school and learned blacksmithing. with Thomas Barton in the smithy, he now owns. After the apprenticeship of two years, he worked as a journeyman with Mr. Barton. He is a Republican. Nathaniel Phillips Stansbury lived in Emmitsburg District in 1900. He married Sara J Barton in 1868 she was born 8 Sep 1849 and she died 1935 5) Martha R Stansbury b. 22 Jun 1847 d. 22 Feb 1918. She married John R Stoner on 28 Nov 1876. John R Stoner was born 22 Apr 1825 Union Bridge Carroll County. and died 18 Sep 1908 Notes I have on him include: German Baptist Church. A well-to-do farmer of Westminster, Carroll County Maryland. Was probably the best know agriculturist of Mechanistown district Frederick County Maryland. Soon after attaining his majority, he located on a farm a mile and a half from Thurmont, which he ever after made his home. On his home place there stands a substantial brick residence and two large barns, besides sheds and other farm buildings. From time to time, he added to his original purchase, and at his death was probably the largest landowner in Frederick County Maryland. His homestead contained 800 acres. It was said that he was the owner of the largest number of head of livestock in that section of the county. He was one of the promoters and directors in the W.F. and G Railroad Company.
