Brinkhous and her sister Carole Reed. she grew up in Durham, NC and graduated from Durham High School. while in high school, she joined the Junior Civil Air Patrol and travelled up and down the East Coast. she attended UNC-CH and worked at Duke University Medical Center. she retired from Duke after 30 years of service in the medical research field. while working, she contributed to and co-authored numerous medical research papers. she took visiting international doctors under her wing and made them... Brinkhous and her sister Carole Reed. she grew up in Durham, NC and graduated from Durham High School. while in high school, she joined the Junior Civil Air Patrol and travelled up and down the East Coast. she attended UNC-CH and worked at Duke University Medical Center. she retired from Duke after 30 years of service in the medical research field. while working, she contributed to and co-authored numerous medical research papers. she took visiting international doctors under her wing and made them feel at home. she made such an impact on Dr. Seiji Takaoka that he flew back from Japan this summer to visit with his "mom" again. in her spare time, she made literally hundreds of quilts for the organization "quilts for kids," sewed pillowcase dresses for children in Haiti, knitted countless baby hats and enjoyed every type of fiber craft and art. in 2010 she was a village pride award winner in Chapel Hill where she was described as "one of the most lovable and genuinely caring individuals who ever lived," and as someone who "just loves doing nice things for others...without fanfare or any desire for recognition." Ann moved to Gastonia in 2011 from Chapel Hill. she quickly joined into the local community and made an amazing group of friends. she was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, the Pacesetters, the Gaston County Art Guild, the Piedmont Fiber Guild and the knitting group at Things Remembered.
