Funeral services were held at the home at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and at 2:30 at the Methodist church with Rev. R.J. Cornell, pastor of the Associated church, officiating as her own pastor, Rev. Robt. H. Forrester, was absent from the city. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Ann Eliza Quick was born in Georgetown, Wis., March 21, 1856, and passed away Oct. 20, 1930, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 19 days. Her early life was spent in Wisconsin and on May 16, 1875, she was united in marriage with Julius John Baker. In 1882 she moved with her husband and family to a farm, five miles south of Ireton, where she lived until she came to Hawarden. She moved to the residence in the northeast part of Hawarden in 1903 and made her home here continuously since that time. Mrs. Baker was the mother of thirteen children, two of whom preceded her in death, Sheridan, a son, who was called away when but a babe of 14 months, and Sarah, a daughter, at the age of 16 years. The husband and eleven children, as well as 24 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, survive. She also leaves a brother, J.W. Quick of Gayville, S.D. The children are Mrs. Bert Luchsinger, Mrs. Emil Anderson, Mrs. W.W. Sporrer and Harry Baker of Hawarden; Mrs. John Anderson of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Elvie Henderson of Alcester; Mrs. C.S. McCarty of Waterloo; Mrs. J.E. Sporrer and Mrs. W.H. Heerman of Huron, S.D.; L.A. Baker of Fedora, S.D.; and A.E. baker of Rapid City, S.D. All of her children, with the exception of Mrs. John Anderson, were present at the funeral. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Hawarden Methodist church for more than 20 years and was a faithful attendant at Sunday school and church until seven weeks ago when she was taken ill. During her illness the visits of her pastor were a source of comfort and blessing to her. During the funeral service a telegram was received from Rev. Forrester bearing his regrets that it was impossible for him to be here and he paid tribute to Mrs. Baker's Christian life. Devotion to her home and her family and her readiness to assist her friends and neighbors were the characteristics of "Mother" Baker which endeared her to all with whom she came into contact.
