When Ann Elizabeth Griffith married (circa 1857) John F. S. Crow (born 5 Nov 1817, died circa 1877) she went by the name Ann Elizabeth Crow. But by 1880 she was recording her name as Betty Ann Crow. John F. S. Crow was the son of Fielding Saunders Crow (born 8 Nov 1785, died circa 1843) and Mary "Polly" Lumpkin (born 1 Sep 1790, died 1861). John was the brother of James E. Crow (Memorial# 90826352). John Crow and Betty Griffith had at least 7 and possibly 9 children: 1. Emma Frances "Fannie" Crow (born 17 Mar 1860, died 17 May 1900) married (14 Apr 1880) Alexander Obadiah Brooks (born 11 May 1856, died 14 Oct 1938). 2. Fielding Crow (born circa 1860). 3. John Thomas Crow (born circa 1862). 4. Edward Miller Crowe (born 6 Jun 1865, died 16 May 1955) married (3 Nov 1895) Minnie Hugh Griffith (born 7 Jul 1875, died 28 Feb 1945). 5. Thornton Crow (born circa 1866). 6. Gay Crow (born circa 1868). 7. Walter Faulconer Crow (born 14 Oct 1872, died 8 Aug 1921) married Henrietta Griggs (born 1884, died 1937). 8. Lucius Hale Crow (born 30 Jun 1873, died 1941, Memorial# 16687833) married Martha (maiden name unknown). Lucius lived in Richmond from early childhood. 9. Crow 54, Ann Crow 35, Emma Crow 12, Fielding Crow 10, Thomas Crow 8, and Thornton Crow 4. In the 1880 US Census for Essex County, page 11, we find Betty A. Crow 40, Jno. T. Crow 17, Edward M. Crow 15, Gay Crow 12, Walter Crow 9, Lucius Crow 6, and Robert L. Crow 3. In the 1900 US Census for Essex County, page 5, we find Betty A. Crow 57, Walter Crow 27, and Robert Crow 23. In the 1910 US Census for Central Essex County, we find Betty Ann Crow living with her son, Walter F. Crow, and his wife, Henrietta Griggs. In the 1920 US Census for Stevensville district, King and Queen County, we find Betty Ann Crowe living with her son, Edward Miller Crowe, and his wife, Minnie Hugh Griffith. In both the 1900 and 1910 Census Betty Crow indicates that she had 7 children, yet we count 9 from the various census records. Most likely 2 children listed were not born to her.
