SCALES Mrs. Ann Eliza Scales died at the home of her son, Ora Scales, in Benton township, last Saturday morning at two o'clock, aged 84 years, 10 months and 7 days. A general break-down from old age was the cause of her death, she being one of the oldest residents of the county. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday morning at eleven o'clock, conducted by Rev. Strawn, of Corydon, and interment took place in the New York cemetery. Ann Eliza Jagger was born in Licking county, Ohio, on March 29, 1825. In 1852 she was married to S. P. Scales, who preceded her to the better land on March 17, 1905. Seven children were born to them, Ellen being deceased, O. A., of Benton township, E. H., J. R. and J. L., of Corydon, Mrs. Lena Oldfield, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Allie Merrill, of Greenfield, Mo. being left to mourn the loss of their mother. Mrs. Scales was greatly loved by all who knew her for her neighborly and motherly qualities. She was a faithful member of the Christian church, and her life was such that she earned the high regard of all who knew her on earth, and a crown of righteousness in Heaven. The sympathy of a host of friends is extended to the sorrowing ones in their loss.
