On Sunday Nov. 24th, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Watson Garbutt, at Waldemar, there passed to the Great Beyond another pioneer in the person of Ann Jane Parks, widow of the late James Berry, in her 75th year. The late Mrs. Berry was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Parks. She was born in the county of Tyrone, Ireland, coming to this country with her parents when a small child four years old. They settled at Camilla, later moving to Melancthon, where she spent most of her life. She married James Berry in the year 1880. He predeceased her in 1917. Four sons and two daughters survive: James F. Berry of Melancthon; Hector Berry, of Waldemar; Robt. And Wilfred Berry, of St. Catharines, and two daughters, Mrs. Thos. Emerick, of Horning's Mills; Mrs. Margaret Garbutt, of Waldemar; also twenty-two grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the home of her son-in-law, Thos. Emerick, Horning's Mills to Horning's Mills cemetery. The service was conducted by the Presbyterian Minister, Rev. Mr. Barker, Horning's Mills, assisted by Rev. Mr. Sellar, Grand Valley. The pall-bearers were: Messrs. Ben Marshall, Garnett Higgins, Oliver Arnold, Alex Hunter, Harry Butcher and Wm. Madill. The floral tributes included: Pillow from the family; spray from the Presbyterian Church; wreath, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Howell, and wreath, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Beggs, Toronto. Six granddaughters acted as flower-bearers, Misses Rena Berry, of Malton; Jean Emerick, Horning's Mills; Bertha and Lena Berry, Melancthon; Kathleen Garbutt and Jean Berry of Waldemar.
