Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen under the direction of Paetznick-Garness Funeral Chapel, Groton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services at the church. Long-time South Dakota resident, Ann Nieman passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004 at the Heart Hospital of South Dakota. Ann Leona was born on May 21, 1917 in a farmhouse near Mellette to James and Edna (Smith) Goldin. She attended school in Mellette, graduating in 1935. After earning her teaching degree from Northern State University, she taught school west of Mansfield for two years. At age sixteen, she met her future husband, Wallace Nierman of Northville. They married July 12, 1938 in Newcastle, Wyoming. They kept their marriage a secret for nearly a year so that Ann could continue to teach school for a second year. Son, Jon was born in 1940, followed by daughters, Jenen in 1943 and Janis in 1946. All were born in Aberdeen. From 1947 to 1952, Wallie and Ann operated an apple ranch in Wenatchee, Washington. Son, Alan was born there in 1948. The couple moved to a farm south of Groton in 1952, where they lived and worked until their retirement in 1979. They then moved to Sun City, Arizona. Ann spent summers in South Dakota since Wallie passed away in 1985. Ann belonged to the Methodist Church and was also a member of the Eastern Star and Tuesday Crackerjacks. Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Jon (Elda) Nierman of Corvallis, Mt, Jenan Nilson of Mesa, AZ, Janis (Bill) Havens of Wheat Ridge, CO, Alan (Bonnie) Nierman of Groton, SD, ten grandchildren; Victoria Schmidt, Lisa Mason, Douglas Freas, Angela Sanchez, Kendall Nilson, Audra Gonzalez, Mandi Everett, Chad Nierman, Lisa Adler, and Jesse Nierman, sixteen great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Ray (Millie) Nierman, sister-in-law, Merle Goldin and special friend, Wilma Smith. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, and two brothers, Leland Goldin and Lewis Goldin.
