Born in Greenwood, Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Annie Mae Hostetler. She was the widow of James N. Kurtz and was predeceased by three brothers, Harvey, Christian and David Hostetler and a sister, Sara Hostetler. As a young woman, Ann made her living as a seamstress in garment factories in New Holland, PA and Greenwood, DE. She enjoyed using those skills to sew for her children.... Born in Greenwood, Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Annie Mae Hostetler. She was the widow of James N. Kurtz and was predeceased by three brothers, Harvey, Christian and David Hostetler and a sister, Sara Hostetler. As a young woman, Ann made her living as a seamstress in garment factories in New Holland, PA and Greenwood, DE. She enjoyed using those skills to sew for her children. She was a foster parent and operated a child-care business in her home. Family was very important to Ann. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed playing games with them. She was also delighted to have five great-grandchildren. Ann was a member of Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church for many years. She also served as secretary, treasurer and deaconess at Deep Creek Mennonite Church. Survivors include a son, James R. "Ron" Kurtz of Norfolk; four daughters, Phyllis K. Jordan and husband Edward of Colorado Springs, CO, Carol K. Wenger and husband James of Chesapeake, Sharon K. Nusbaum and husband William of Norfolk and Betty Kurtz of Norfolk; grandchildren, Evan Wenger and wife Carleen, Weston Jordan and wife Liz, Marc Jordan, Jesse Wenger and wife Crystal, Galen Wenger and Leigh Nusbaum; five great-grandchildren, Joel Wenger, Jaime Wenger, Sage Jordan, Luke Wenger and Noah Wenger. Funeral service Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church, 2041 Mt. Pleasant Road, Chesapeake. Rev. Harold Bergey and Rev. Keith Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family would like to express gratitude to the staffs of The Ballentine and Envoy Thornton Hall for the excellent care provided to Mrs. Kurtz. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant Christian School, 1613 Mount Pleasant Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322, or to a charity of choice. Arrangements by Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.
