Description	:	Ann Vandervelde Appel, 51, of Littleton, Colo., died Monday, March 26, 2012, at her home. Born Feb. 10, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, she was the daughter of Kermit and Judith Vandervelde. In 1989, she married Scott Appel. Mrs. Appel worked several years in a hospital lab. She grew up in Fort Wayne, Ind., and earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology and zoology at Iowa State University. She was known for cheering on her sons and their teammates at track meets and cross country races, as a trouper and as neat and organized. She collected seashells. Born Feb. 10, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, she was the daughter of Kermit and Judith Vandervelde. In 1989, she married Scott Appel. Mrs. Appel worked several years in a hospital lab. She grew up in Fort Wayne, Ind., and earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology and zoology at Iowa State University. She was known for cheering on her sons and their teammates at track meets and cross country races, as a trouper and as neat and organized. She collected seashells. She enjoyed the mountains, the beach at Siesta Key, Fla., in the spring and her family. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Evan and Austin of Littleton; her father and stepmother, Kermit and Judy Vandervelde of Fort Wayne; one brother, David; and one niece. She was preceded in death by her mother. The graveside memorial service for Mrs. Appel was Sunday in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.
