Aug 31 1963 - Carroll Daily Times - Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Wegner, 98, one of Carroll County's oldest residents, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, in the First Presbyterian church, Carroll. She died at 12:10 p.m. Friday at St. Anthony Hospital as result of a cerebral hemorrhage. She had been ill for a week. The Rev. Allan M. Peterson will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery beside her husband, Henry F. Wegner, who died July 18, 1940. Friends may call at the Huffman Funeral Home in Carroll after 3 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Wegner had been a resident of Carroll County for 86 years. She was born June 17, 1865, at Muscatine, a daughter of William and Anna Bietz. While she was a young girl, her mother died, and at the age of 12 years, she accompanied her father and other children in the family to Sheridan Township, Carroll County. Her marriage to Henry F. Wegner took place at Arcadia on April 9, 1889; and in 1939, the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Wegner was a blacksmith. For the past 15 years, Mrs. Wegner had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. John (Ella) Stammeyer, at 322 West Seventh Street, Carroll. Since breaking her hip several years ago, Mrs. Wegner occupied much of her time by crocheting hundreds of rugs in various sizes and colors. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her four children: Albert C. Wegner, Mrs. Ella Stammeyer and Frank Wegner, Carroll, and George Wegner, Park Ridge, Illlinois; six grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Edward Wegner, two daughters, Viola and Grace; her parents; one brother, William and one sister, Mrs. Charles Wegner.
