Description	:	Anna Belle was born in Monroe County but grew up in Greenbrier County on what became known as the Hedrick-Chase farm on Muddy Creek Mountain, about 1 mile south of Jane’s Chapel Church. She would have learned all the skills common to farm girls of the era, such as cooking, baking, canning, sewing, and so on. She would have learned all the skills common to farm girls of the era, such as cooking, baking, canning, sewing, and so on. She and her family attended the local Methodist Church, probably co-located at that time with the current Falls Cemetery. The details of her formal education are uncertain, but she certainly was a literate and knowledgeable person who, as a mother, began the education of her children in the home. She married Andrew Jackson Zicafoose, who came from what was known as Zicafoose Hollow at the northwestern base of Muddy Creek Mountain, near the town of Asbury. They established their home on a knoll part way up the mountain side from the end of the hollow and there raised their family. Andrew farmed the land, using horses as the main source of agricultural power. As with so many families of that era, the family suffered several tragedies. Two of their children died young, William at eight months and May at 19 years. Following the birth of William, Anna Belle was sick for nearly a year and almost died from childbed fever. Lora almost died from pneumonia when a freshman in high school, and Dwyer was sickly in childhood and the doctors despaired of his reaching manhood. Anna Belle nearly died again from a buggy accident. The horse was spooked and ran down the hill in front of the house, with her being thrown onto a pile of rocks while trying to turn the buggy. She spent a year in bed; again not expected to live but "faith and prayer saved her life." At age 72, Anna Belle developed appendicitis and died several weeks later of complications of a ruptured appendix, at the home of Dwyer, in the community of Sam Black near Clintonville.
