Description	:	Anna was the daughter of James Woods and Ella Colburn. She married Joseph Cheney on March 20, 1898. They were the parents of Julian. She married Joseph Cheney on March 20, 1898. They were the parents of Julian. June 9, 1966 - Newell Mirror - Anna Belle Cheney, the daughter of James L. and Ella B. Woods, was born May 11, 1878 near Sioux Rapids, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Joseph S. Cheney at the farm home of her parents southwest of Newell on Mar. 20, 1898. Mrs. Cheney, along with her husband, united with the Newell Methodist Church in the winter of 1899 and has been a continuous member since that time. She also holds a 50-year membership in the Rebekah Lodge of Newell and of the Royal Neighbors of America. The marrige of Mr and Mrs. Cheney was blessed with one son, Julian. They were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 1948. Mr. Cheney passed away in 1953. Anna Belle was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and five brothers. She was the last of the family of hardy pioneers. After the death of Mr. Cheney she continued to make her home in Newell. In the fall of 1959 she went to SIOMX City where she was a resident of the Samaritan Home for about three years. From there she was transferred to the Westwood Nursing Home. She continued to make her home there until it was necessary for her to be hospitalized on May 24 at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City, It was here it pleased the Lord to call her home to eternal rest. Mrs. Cheney is survived by her son, Julian, and his wife, Roselyn, and one grandaughter, Janette. Also, several nieces and nephews in Minnesota. The funeral service was conducted on Sunday afternoon June 5, at the Methodist Church of Newell with Rev. Wm. G. Bohi, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Wm. Wessendorf, accompanied by Mrs Dean Rogers son "How Great Thou Art" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Mrs. Carl Bellows and Mrs. Harry Straight cared for the flowers. Pall bearers were Vernon Haahr, Emery Wilson, Roger Waggle, Gail Housholder, Gladwyn Ellis and Leon Haahr. Her body was laid to rest in the family lot in the Newell Cemetery.
