She was possessed of remarkable strength and led an active life until within a few days of her death. Mrs. Bowers was a member of the Church of the Brethren, or Dunkards, for seventy-five years. She leaves four children. May 18, 1911 Hagerstown Exponent Anna Bowers, Oldest Citizen of Jefferson Township, Dead Mrs. Anna Bowers, age 91 years, died at her home here Monday afternoon, near two o'clock. Mrs. Bowers enjoyed very good health, suffering only occasionally for the past few weeks with sudden attacks of stomach trouble and from weakness, until Friday, when she became seriously ill, growing gradually worse. Mrs. Bowers was loved by all who knew her for her gentle and sympathetic nature. She was a good woman, willing all through her life, to aid in every way she could, the distressed and the afflicted. Her home duties were never neglected, and her life was full of sweet sacrifices and loyal devotion to her children, and to all who shared at any time the beautiful hospitality of her home. Five children are living; Mrs. Susan Underhill, of Richmond, Mrs. Sarah Davis, of Greensburg, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones of Dayton, O. Mrs. A. C. Walker, and O. P. Bowers, of Hagerstown. Funeral services were held today at 10:30 o'clock, at the Brick church, the Rev. Lewis Teeter, assisted by the Rev. D.E. Bowman conducting the services. Interment was made in the church yard cemetery. The bearers were the six grandsons; Frank Dilling, of Indianapolis, Ed Underhill and Albert Underhill, of Richmond, Harold Jones, of Dayton; O., Terrie Walker and Earl Walker of this place.
