Description	:	Mrs. Anna Hughes, one of Holt county's pioneer residents, passed away at her home in O'Neill on Saturday morning, January 11th after an illness of several weeks. Furneral services were held Monday afternoon from the Presbterian church with Rev. H. H. Beers of Olatha, Kansas, a former pastor of the church here. Interment followed in Prospect HIll cemetery. Anna Caroline, second child of a family of twelve children, was born on February 6, 1871 to Elizabeth and Benjamin Johring in Mason Plains, Illinois. When she was eight years old the family moved west and settled in Lancaster county, Nebraska. Three years later the two older children, Mary and Anna, with their father came to Holt county, making the trip in a covered wagon. The rest of the family came later. In 1892 she was united in marriage to George Rodenwold. They made their home on a farm northwest of O'Neill and lived there until her husband was called to the great beyond, leaving her with five small children. One year later the youngest daughter, Ruth Pearl, joined him in death. She then moved with her children to O'Neill where she has since resided. In 1903 she was united in marriage to James Edward Hughes and to this union were born twin girls. She was a faithful mother and managed to keep her family together until they had grown to manhood and womanhood, which was a great comfort to both her and her children. She was amember of the Presbterian church of this city, which she joined on January 3, 1901. She was also a member of Royal Neighbors. In passing she leaves her children: Elizabeth T. Madison, Bassett, Ne; Benjamin W. Rodenwold, Corvallis, Oregon; Mabel L. Sanders, Winner, S.D.; Rose D. I. Davey, Valentine, Ne; Lorena E. Anspach, Inman, Ne; Loretta E. Hughes, O'Neill. She also leaves to mourn her passing, three sisters: Mrs. Rose Jennings, Mrs. Fannie Ernst, Mrs. Emma Lawrence; and one brother, Fred Johring, all of O'Neil, Ne; and twelve grandhildren, besides a host of friends and neighbors. Mrs. Hughes had been ailing for some months and she was taken to Omaha a few months ago to see if she could receive some benefit in the larger hospitals there, but the dread disease had gained too strong a hold and she was brought home a couple of weeks ago, her relatives and friends knowning the end was near.
