She had been suffering from this malady for several days and held to the hope that she could be relieved without an operation until the acute condition came after which it was not possible to save her life. Anna Katherine Schumacher, nee Damme, was born March 28, 1876, in McWilliams precinct, Otoe county, Nebraska. May 4th 1904 she was united in marriage to Henry Schumacher and for seven years afterward lived on a farm near Talmage. They then purchased the present home four miles northeast of town where they have since resided. Her domestic life was a happy one. She was a faithful, loving wife and mother and saw to the instruction of her children in religious instruction as well as in the duties of the home and of life. To their union was born five children, three sons and two daughters. The older of the two daughters preceeded her in death while an infant. About a week prior to her death she was taken with an attack of appendicitis which made an operation necessary but it came too late to save her life. She departed this life April 17, 1925, at the age of 49 years and 19 days, leaving desolate and sorrowing her husband, three sons, one daughter, her aged mother, two sisters and five brothers with their families, and a very large circle of friends. In her community she was known for her neighborly kindness, her generous hospitality and her helpful disposition and those with whom she came in contact during her life in the community had come to know and to esteem her as a neighbor, friend and associate and to admire her for her many fine traits of character that made her beloved by many. Funeral services for Mrs. Schumacher were held from the Ev. St. John's church in Syracuse of which she was a faithful communicant, and were conducted by her pastor, Rev. C. Gabler in German and by Rev. Theo. Gabler of Talmage in English. The singers of the congregation in duets and quartette rendered sweet music. The mortal remains of the deceased were tenderly taken to Warner cemetery where she was lovingly laid to rest beneath the skies of her beloved country and mourned by a large number of those who knew and loved her in life. The profuse floral tributes, the large company of friends and neighbors who gathered to pay their last token of respect spoke eloquently of the esteem in which her life was held and of the deep sympathy that was tendered to her beloved ones who are left to mourn the calling of daughter, wife and mother. May she rest in loving quiet and her memory be kept green by loving hands and tender memories linger about her last resting place and loving hearts minister to the grief of those who will be long in forgetting her life, and devotion.
