Description	:	Mrs. Anna, wife of Lot Mankin, died at her late home in Middleton township at two o'clock, Dec. 22nd, 1903. Mrs. Mankin, the subject of this sketch, was born in Middleton township about 30 years ago and in the earlier years of her life experienced the joys of conversion and became a member of the United Brethern church at Hazelville. Read More	Mrs. Anna, wife of Lot Mankin, died at her late home in Middleton township at two o'clock, Dec. 22nd, 1903. Mrs. Mankin, the subject of this sketch, was born in Middleton township about 30 years ago and in the earlier years of her life experienced the joys of conversion and became a member of the United Brethern church at Hazelville. On the 7th of June 1892, she became the wife of Mr. Lot Mankin, and from the union of this marriage, seven children were born. The youngest of whom is but six weeks old, an infant babe who will never realize the value of a mother's care or help that comes from a mother's love. This sad death is the outcome of a complication of diseases, the origin of which dates back to that cold February night on which their home, on the Fronk farm near this city, with all of its contents was totally destroyed by fire. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. G. W. Orcutt, at her late residence, this afternoon at two o'clock after which the body will be laid to rest in the East Palestine cemetery. Taken from the Reveille Echo, dated December 24, 1903. Note: Parentage and therefore confirmation of maiden name has not been determined. Various family trees on Ancestry.com list her maiden name as Dyke. Additional note: I have not located the youngest child who possibly died shortly after Anna. The next two youngest children were either formally or informally adopted: Grace Mankin Peirce and Hiram Kachner. Update 03/21/2015: The youngest child of Anna Dyke and Lot Mankin has been located. He didn't die as a baby, but was placed in the Fairmount Children's Home in Alliance, Ohio. This was probably due to his father being unable to care for him after his wife's death and why the two young children immediately older than Daniel were placed for adoption. Unfortunately, Daniel died of pneumonia at the age of 14 while still at the Home. Based on Daniel's birth date, the birth year of Hiram must be in error and probably should be 1901.
