Appuhn Annie Eliza Criss Appuhn, Daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Criss, was born near Raymond, Nebraska on April 14, 1870 and passed away in Grand Island, Nebraska on February 11, 1950 at the age of 79 years, 9 months, and 27 days. Appuhn Annie Eliza Criss Appuhn, Daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Criss, was born near Raymond, Nebraska on April 14, 1870 and passed away in Grand Island, Nebraska on February 11, 1950 at the age of 79 years, 9 months, and 27 days. During her childhood days she lived around Raymond, Davey, and Lincoln, Nebraska. In December of 1890 she united in marriage to John David Appuhn. The couple lived on the old Apphuhn homestead for approximately 35 years. Later they moved to Greenwood, Nebraska, living there until 1930. Before moving to Central City, Nebraska, in 1941 they had lived in Polk County for several years. Mrs. Appuhn was a member of the Methodist church of Greenwood, Nebraska for many years. She not only was a member of the church, but she lived the Christian Teachings. Her guide was the Golden Rule with the philosophy of life that she would do more for the other person than she would ever expect in return. Even though she had her own family to care for, often times she would go to the homes of other people in need; applying her knowledge of practical nursing and care for those in need for several weeks at a time. Not only caring for the ill in health, but she would care for the entire family the same as she did for her own. During the time she was doing this type of work her own health was the least of her concern. Up until the time of her passing, never did she ever consider her own welfare first, it was the welfare of those around her which concerned her the most. She is survived by: Two daughters, Mrs. Blance Hemenway of Clearwater, Nebraska; Mrs. Grace Stevens of Worth, Missouri. Two sons, Forrest M. Appuhn of Central City, Nebraska and Lemuel Appuhn of Richmond, California. One sister, Mrs. Martha Ellen Baiers of Central City, Nebraska. Eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Appuhn was preceded in death by her husband in 1948 , four brothers, and one sister. One daughter, Fern Stevens in 1914. Her passing is not only a lost to the family, but equally as great a loss to the community and the friends she had in every place she had lived.
