Description	:	Anna was born in Winthrop, Sibley County, Minnesota on September 2, 1886, the eldest daughter of Emil Carl Schmidt and Amanda Maria (Thomander) Schmidt. Her father had immigrated from Germany in 1884; her Swedish mother arrived from Denmark, also in 1884. Anna's middle name Emelie is for her mother's mother. In 1901, Anna moved with her parents to Platte, Charles Mix County, South Dakota. There she met a young man, Harry R. Roberts, who had grown up there. They were married in Platte June 30, 1907. Her father had immigrated from Germany in 1884; her Swedish mother arrived from Denmark, also in 1884. Anna's middle name Emelie is for her mother's mother. In 1901, Anna moved with her parents to Platte, Charles Mix County, South Dakota. There she met a young man, Harry R. Roberts, who had grown up there. They were married in Platte June 30, 1907. To this union three chidren were born: Orville Lewis (b. 1908), named for Harry's older brother and business partner but known as Buster as a child; Harry Russell Jr.(b. 1910), named for his father but always called Russell; and Arlene Ruth (b. 1912), partly named for Anna's younger sister Ruth. In April of 1919, Anna developed abdominal pains of unknown origin. She was admitted to hospital in nearby Yankton, South Dakota, where she underwent exploratory surgery in mid-April. Complications developed, including influenza, and she died of acute nephritis on May 2, 1919. Since single fathers were unheard of at the time, Harry and Anna's three young children lived in Platte with Harry's brother Orville and his newly-married wife Blanche, a widow who had been a good friend of Anna's. Orville and Blanche brought up the children to adulthood, with Harry giving the final word on major decisions.
