As Anna Brandt, Mrs. Meier was born in Peoria county, Ill., June 11, 1858, and her death on May 8, 1928, made her 69 years, 10 months, and 27 days of age. When about 14 years old she moved with her parents to Minonk, Woodford county, Ill., where on April 28, 1874, she was united in marriage to Nicolaus H. Meier. With her family she came to Nebraska in February, 1879, settling on a farm two miles east of Scribner. Two years later the family moved to the home farm three miles west of Hooper. There she resided until 1906 when a six months trip was taken to Germany in the hopes of benefitting her declining health, and then located in Hooper with her husband in the home they had purchased. This place remained her residence until 1920 when her physical debility caused her to be taken to a home at West Point and six months later to the hospital at Norfolk. Though given the best of care her health gradually declined until the coming of death on Tuesday morning to relieve her of a life-long period of sickness and suffering. During her many years of residence in this locality, Mrs. Meier became widely known and held in the high esteem of her friends. She was a devoted wife and mother, a Christian woman and kind friend and neighbor, and her death brings to the husband and family the sincere sympathy of the people of the community. Besides the husband she is survived by six sons, Henry W. of Scribner, George N., Charles F., and Herman J. of Hooper and Edward J. and Frank G. of Cheyenne county. Other surviving relatives are 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three sisters, Mrs. Kate Janssen of Fremont, Mrs. Henry Mitchell of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. John Kallenbach of Hooper, and three brothers, Herman, Ike and John Brandt of this place.
