Mrs. Henry Knake died at her home in Castle Grove township, last Monday evening at 8:30 o'clock. She has been in failing health during the past 18 years, and submitted to eight surgical operations for the possible restoration of her health. The last operation was performed at the McDonald hospital, last June. However, in spite of the surgical aid which she sought, she was unable to regain her health permanently. During all the years of her illness she was tenderly cared for by her husband and her children. Mrs. Knake was born in Ogenbargen, Germany, February 15, 1867. She was 52 years, 10 months and 10 days of age, at the time of her death. While a resident of Germany, she belonged to the Lutheran congregation of Middle of East Freisland. While still a resident of Germany, she was married to Henry Knake, May 4, 1892. Soon after their marriage they emigrated from the Fatherland to the United States, and settled upon the farm in Castle Grove township, which is now occupied by the Knake family. To this union were born seven children,viz: Louis, Henry, Edward,Marie, Mattie, Wilhelmina, and Mrs. John Gerdes of Strawberry Point. All of the children and their father were with Mrs. Knake at the time she passed away. The deceased is also survived by three grandchildren, and two sisters, who still live in Germany. The deceased was a faithful member of St. Peter's and St. Paul's Lutheran church of Castle Grove township. She was one of the first organizers of the Ladies' Aid Society in that church,and took a vital interest in all of its activities. She died with a lasting faith in the teachings of her church and her Savior. The funeral services were held this morning at 11 o'clock at the Knake home, and final services were held at 12 o'clock at St. Peter's and St. Paul's Lutheran church of Castle Grove township. These services were conducted by the pastor of that church, Rev. M. Scherf. Burial was had in the cemetery adjoining the church.
