Mrs. Timmons was born April 4, 1917, in Lake City, the first child of Charles McDuffie Cook and Exie McCutcheon Cook. Read More	FLORENCE — Ola Cook Timmons, 92, went to be in the arms of Jesus on Tuesday evening, May 26, 2009, at Presbyterian Retirement Community of Florence. Mrs. Timmons was born April 4, 1917, in Lake City, the first child of Charles McDuffie Cook and Exie McCutcheon Cook. She graduated from Lake City High School and then in 1935, married the late Raymond E. Timmons. Together they owned and operated up to three grocery stores at one time in the Florence area. After her husbands death in 1951, she owned and operated one store, while earning a degree in accounting. In 1956, she became the financial secretary for First Presbyterian Church on Cherokee Road in Florence, where she served loyally for 26 years. Mrs. Timmons retired in 1982, but then she donated her time as receptionist at Florence Presbyterian Retirement Community and the Presbytery until 1996 when she became a resident in the community. While a member of Southside Baptist Church, she served as an adult Sunday school teacher for 20 years and as an officer in the Womens Organizations and Pulpit committee. At Calvary Baptist Church, Mrs. Timmons organized a deaf ministry. She later joined First Presbyterian Church of Florence. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Nellie Levon Timmons; a granddaughter, Mauri Megan Gore; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Nicole Gore, a brother, and three sisters. Surviving are three children, Betty Jo Timmons (Paul) Brigham of Batesburg, Judith Judi Timmons Gore of Florence, Ray (Barbara) Timmons of Aiken; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Beulah Mae Walker of Virginia and Ethel Dusenberry of North Carolina. A private graveside will be held for the family and close friends Friday, May 29, 2009, in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2009, in Presbyterian Community Chapel, 2350 W. Lucas St., Florence, followed by the family receiving friends in the living room near the Chapel. Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice, P.O. Box 100551, Florence, SC 29502 or to Presbyterian Retirement Community, 2350 W. Lucas St., Florence, SC 29501.
