Description	:	St. Marys- Anna L. Channel, 88, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Community Hospital in St. Marys. She was born July 3, 1920 at Montrose, CO. the daughter of John Orville and Inez DeOlevette Bateman Hubbard. She was raised in the Parker and Keene communities and graduated from Dover High School. She attended Brigham Young and Washburn Universities. Mrs. Channel was a school teacher, teaching at Blacksmith School, Soldier Schools and later the America City School where she was the last teacher at the school. She later cooked for Bauman Catering Service and the Nemaha County Senior Citizens program.... Read More	St. Marys- Anna L. She was raised in the Parker and Keene communities and graduated from Dover High School. She attended Brigham Young and Washburn Universities. Mrs. Channel was a school teacher, teaching at Blacksmith School, Soldier Schools and later the America City School where she was the last teacher at the school. She later cooked for Bauman Catering Service and the Nemaha County Senior Citizens program. She had lived in the America City community many years and moved to Centralia in 1977; later moving to the St. Marys Manor in 2002. Mrs. Channel was a member of the Centralia United Methodist Church. She was a member of the UMWC and had served as president several times. She was a 4-H leader of the Red Vermillion 4-H Club. Mrs. Channel was a member of the NAFCE (Nemaha County Extension Unit) and had served as County President. She was a past district president of GFWC. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society at St. Marys Manor. She was united in marriage to Floyd Rex Taylor on October 25, 1939. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1947. She was married to Frank E. Channel on May 16, 1948. They celebrated 58 years of marriage before his death on October 1, 2006. Mrs. Channel was also preceded in death by a son Veryl Channel. Survivors include her children, Donald "Rex" (Shirley) Taylor, Mesquite, TX, Darrell (Sue) Taylor, Breckenridge, CO, Arthur (Mary) Channel, Mooresville, NC, MaryAnn Hughes, Topeka, Martin (Brenda) Channel, Emmett, Rodney (Dana) Channel, Miami, OK, and Virginia (Jim) Schmelzle, Topeka; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the St. Marys United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the America City Cemetery. Mrs. Channel will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. Her family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the America City Cemetery or St. Marys Manor and sent in care of the funeral home.
