Nov 21, 1918 - Carroll Times - The dreaded Influenza is again taking heavy toll in this community, three deaths having occurred in Carroll within the past three days, and a large number of new cases being reported in the city. There is every reason to fear that it will again become necessary to apply the quarantine regulations, though every precaution is being taken to prevent a further spread of the disease otherwise. Mrs. J.J. Quigley died at the hospital at 4:30 Monday morning after a short Illness with pneumonia. She had been in poor health however for some time past having been taken sick with inflammatory rheumatism some months ago. Mrs. Quigley was the daughter of J.B. O'Brien, of this city, and was born in Benton county, Iowa, October 24, 1883. At the age of one year she moved with her parents to Scranton which was her home until ten years ago when the family moved to Carroll. At that time she and another sister conducted a milinary store in Carroll, and were in business three years until her marriage to James Quigley, January 3, 1909. She was a charming woman, a devoted mother and an ardent worker in St. Joseph's church of which she was a constant attendant. Sympathy goes out to the husband who with three small daughters survive. Besides her husband and daughters Katherine, Dorothy, and baby Margaret, 18 months old, she leaves her father; five sisters and one brother: Mrs. Charles Peterson, of St. Cloud Minnesota; Mrs. R.P. Graham, of Spencer; Rose, Veronica and Beatrice at home, and her brother, John. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 and burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery. Mass was held Wednesday morning. Those who attended the funeral from away were Mr. and Mrs. Graham, of Spencer; Mrs. Peterson, of St. Cloud, Minnesota; and Mr. and Mrs. Keheller, of Norfolk, Nebraska.
